McKean County Conservation District - Strategic Plan

The 2007 Strategic Plan

The McKean County Conservation District is proud to present its Strategic Plan.  In it you will find the organizing framework, goals and objectives, and projects and activities to achieve those goals. You will also find a timeline and measures of success.

Planning is one of the most essential elements of any effective organization. It is a framework for communication and decision making. Without planning, every organization runs the risk of straying from its basic mission and getting caught up in crisis management. The Conservation District Board of Directors recognized this and is committed to stay on course with its mission. Knowing that, the Directors implemented the “Building for Tomorrow’ Leadership and Professional Development Program for Pennsylvania’s Conservation Districts” grant program and formulated its own strategic plan.

The Conservation District’s Strategic Plan established a mission, vision and goals and objectives based on critical natural resource issues. We will achieve these goals by capturing them in a concise document that is shared with existing and potential partners.  The Strategic Plan elements were established through a series of meetings involving the district directors and staff; cooperating agencies; and representatives from the District’s nominating organizations.

VISION

The McKean County Conservation District will encourage all citizens to adopt a way of life which results in conserving, protecting and practicing the wise use of our natural resources.

MISSION

The McKean County Conservation District will provide leadership, education, and guidance to ensure the wise use and protection of our valuable natural resources.

GOALS

1. Protect, maintain & improve water resources throughout the County.

2. Increase awareness of Conservation District programs and functions.

3. Develop Resources to sustain & enhance the Conservation District.

4. Promote & Implement Conservation Education Programs.

5. Protect, maintain & improve soil resources throughout the County.

6. Provide assistance to meet regulatory requirements.

The strategic plan articulates the issues currently facing the District as well as the issues the District will likely face in the future.  The plan builds upon the goals by developing objectives and action steps to address the County’s natural resource issues, to address customer needs, and enhance the district’s ability to carry out its goals.

This plan is a living, breathing document and is being implemented employing constant communication with the individuals and agencies which support the District on an annual basis.  This will maintain strong, working partnerships and ensure continued support from within the District and with outside partners.
