McKean County Elections - Party Selection

Primary Elections in Pennsylvania are designated for certified parties within the Commonwealth.

The two parties usually certified by the Department of State are the Democratic and Republican Parties.

Only registered Democrats or registered Republicans are eligible to vote during a Primary Election.

The only stipulation to this law is if there is a referendum included on the ballot. During this process all registered voters may vote-Democrats and Republicans will vote a full ballot. Anyone registered in any other party will qualify to vote on the referendum only.
